Tutoring occurs online through Google Meet where we can share screens and show how problems can be solved mathematically, with the excel functions, and with the BAII Plus financial calculator. The focus is not just on the mechanics of how to solve the problem, but understanding why and how to set up and solve the problem in a specific way. Mike brings context to the problems by sharing personal stories related to the concept. For example, Mike was responsible for developing the WACC for UPS and UPS Capital and building acquisition models for four different M&A opportunities.

Mike earned his undergraduate degree in Economics at the University of Virginia and an MBA at the Goizueta Business School at Emory University. As a part of the MBA degree, Mike studied at Johannes Kepler University in Linz, Austria for one year. He interned in the Finance department at Proctor & Gamble in Vienna then began his finance career at UPS in Atlanta, GA in 1992.

At UPS, Mike worked in several different financial capacities, including Financial Planning, Investment Management, M&A, and Corporate Strategy. When UPS established UPS Capital, its financial services subsidiary, Mike was installed as the first CFO where he established processes for financial planning, reporting, accounting, and budgeting.

UPS Capital expanded its presence globally and Mike headed up the International Factoring business unit. While living in the UK, Mike led teams in the US, UK, Norway, Hong Kong, Taipei, and Shanghai.

Mike returned to the corporate office in Atlanta to help transition the North American business from primarily a lending business to an insurance business where UPS Capital became one of the fastest growing and most profitable business units within UPS. Mike finished his career with UPS as the head of Strategy at UPS Capital back in Atlanta.

Upon retirement from UPS, Mike and his wife moved full-time to Lake Martin in Central Alabama. Mike enjoys swimming, hiking, biking, golf, and travel. Mike also spends time in Louisville, KY with extended family, upstate NY with his son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter, and Santa Monica, CA with his son who works in commercial real estate.
